The character concept-art cycle
.:I found this in the book "The Art of Game Characters" by Leo Hartas:.
The character concept art cycle:
1. generate first round of sketches. This should be rough but
expressive, and should be creates very quickly with lots of variety.
2. Narrow down which ones have features that work well (I like this
hait but not that nose, etc). get multiple opinions on this to help
ensure broad appeal.
3. Do another round of drawings, a bit tighter this tme and combining the features that were selected from round one.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you found character that seems to work
well. The final version shoulf include colour and tutnaround view
showing the charcter's front, back ,and side.
5. Once you have the design you like, get feedback on it if possible,
either through focus testing ora at the very least, interna company
review. Make any needed adjustments in response to the feedback. But do
not design by committee! One or two people, usually the Lead Artist or
Lead Designer, must have the final say.
6. The last step is put the character into its final state.
